From action to metamorphosis: Animals in Robert Wilson’s theater

Abstract
Robert Wilsons theatrical world is often described as phantasmagoric, surrealistic and child-like, thus non-linear, non-logical and irrational. Animals play an important role within this theatrical world of animism, metamorphosis and transformation. Understanding Wilson’s Theatre as paradigmatic for what Hans Thies Lehmann called „Postdramatic Theatre“ this paper tries to show the multifarious facettes of animals and creatural appearances it incorporates, and how they are a constitutive part of it.
